Tower View Primary School

Author Eamonn Reilly came to Towerview!

Eamonn Reilly visited the school today and ran a very exciting and uplifting assembly about writing stories and the excitement of books.

Eamonn Reilly an author of many books including The British Spy School, The Look Out, One Boy and Rashnu visited the school yesterday and inspired the children to not only enjoy writing but want to read more.  He was funny, interesting, exciting and larger-than-life.  He returned the next day to sign books and speak to the children about their love of reading.  It was great to see such an accomplished writer in our school.  He went on to tell us that his mission is to enrich children’s lives by actively involving them in the process of story telling and creative writing. He discovered early in his writing days that the way to do this was to visit schools and read from his books, so he supposes he has become “Eamonn Reilly Author & Travelling Children’s Story Teller”.

During the assembly Eamonn answered the following questions from the children:

Q: How do you come up with the ideas?

A: I always start with the characters, not the events. You find that readers don't care as much about the events as they do the characters; they care what happens to those characters.

Q: What inspires your stories?

A: Every day life inspires me to write my stories, listening to people and just everyday events!

Q: Which is your favourite of your own books?

A: The Ghost of the Nazareth House - my new one is also my favourite.

Q: Who is your favourite author?

A: Jacqueline Wilson

Q: How long does it take you to write a book?

A: Around a year from the initial idea to publishing it.
